creative Kindling
Fire comes in many forms.
This event explored the ways in which it kindled a collaboration between poet, Christina Thatcher, and singer/songwriter The Warden.
Christina originally proposed that Steve (The Warden) perform songs with a fire theme for the launch event of her poetry collection, How to Carry Fire (2020). Then the pandemic hit and the launch was cancelled. This original idea then evolved into an in-depth collaboration which led the pair to create three songs that incorporated, questioned and expanded on the original poems.
A unique event at Dyddiau Du, Cardiff, told the story of the collaboration through conversation, images and excerpts of early recordings. The pair’s collaborative story considered how poetry and music can ignite each other.
It will also feature readings from How to Carry Fire (2020) as well as the finished songs inspired by these poems, performed alongside cellist Kirsten Miller.
